Mission Statement

Our mission is to help residents live a productive life and achieve long term recovery. We use a Cognitive Behavioral and holistic approach; physical, mental, and spiritual with a strong emphasis on social inclusion with regards to racial, ethnic, socio-economic status, disability, health, and sexual orientation. Ours is a dynamic, nurturing community that responds to individual needs.

About Us

Eastern Middlesex Alcoholism Services (EMAS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency providing comprehensive adult substance abuse education, prevention and treatment programs for males aged 18 and older. Located in Malden, MA, Eastern Middlesex houses 30 residential beds. Throughout the client’s process, they engage in group therapy, one on one counseling and are integrated back into the workforce.

Eastern Middlesex also offers a continuum of care to individuals. Clients, once successfully completing the program, may have the option of living in one of the four continuum programs owned by Eastern Middlesex. As an agency, we hold true that the longer those in recovery stay within a continuum of care that focuses on maintaining the skills and tools learned in the residential portion of the program, the higher probability for long-term sustained recovery.

If the client meets the above criteria he will be scheduled for an interview, either in person (Covid restrictions may apply) or via zoom (phone interviews approved on a case by case basis)

Exclusion Criteria

  • Clients who are experiencing SI/HI or have had recent suicide attempts will be reconsidered for the program only after they have had a thorough psychiatric evaluation and are no longer a risk to themselves or others.
  • Some of the grounds for exclusion are instability in one or more areas. These include but are not limited to mental health status, acute medical conditions requiring hospital-level care, medical or physical condition that prohibit the participation in all aspects of the treatment program.
  • The referral process for excluded individuals varies depending on the way in which the referral was received. If received via a referring and outside agency, feedback and suggestions will be made to the clinician/case worker who supported the client in placing the referral. If further support is needed for said agency, it will be provided by EMAS. If the referral is a self-referral, via the client EMAS will support the client in identifying appropriate placement and facilitating that referral.
